After being accused of sexual misconduct by two more women this more, R. Kelly has been charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
As the Chicago Sun-Times reports, records show that that Kelly was charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in Cook County in Illinois this morning.
UPDATE (2/22, 10:45 p.m. EST): R. Kelly has now been arrested after being charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse earlier today. The singer turned himself into authorities this evening, according to various media reports. Chicago Tribune reporter Megan Crepeau also posted video of Kelly surrendering to police. UPDATE (2/22, 3:40 p.m. EST): The Associated Press reports that the 10 counts against Kelly involve four victims, at least three of whom were younger than 17. Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx said the sentencing range for aggravated sexual assault is up to seven years in prison. If convicted on all 10 counts, a judge could order the sentences to be served concurrently, resulting in a possible sentence of 70 years in prison. Kelly will appear in bond court Saturday (February 23) in Chicago.
The publication notes that Kelly's first court date is March 8, according to the records. The singer's lawyer, Steven Greenberg, could not be reached for comment by the paper today.
Kelly is currently under investigation in the states of Illinois and Georgia, where he owned homes and has been accused of running a sex cult. He has been accused of sexual abuse by multiple women, many of whom recently appeared in the Lifetime documentary series Surviving R. Kelly.
As previously reported, Kelly was dropped by his record label following the release of the doc series. Last year, his music was removed from Spotify under their Hateful Conduct Policy.
