With nowhere to go but, R.E.M. have announced a 25th anniversary deluxe reissue of their 11th studio album Up. Among the promised never-before-released content included is the recording of a full 11-song concert performed on the set of the hokey '90s family drama Party of Five, because why not?
That performance was filmed in 1999 at the Palace Theatre in Los Angeles with 175 R.E.M. fan club members in attendance. Within an episode of the show, they made their scripted TV debut by performing "At My Most Beautiful," which was their current single. "It's goofy stuff, but a lot of people in our office watch [Party of Five]," bassist Mike Mills told MTV News at the time. "It's a good show and it's a chance for us to play a whole song live on TV."
Up: 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition arrives November 10 via Craft Recordings. Available on 2LP, 2CD, 2CD/1 Blu-ray and digital formats, it continues the band's yearly reissue streak, having celebrated the 40th anniversary of debut EP Chronic Town last year after marking 25 years of their 10th album, New Adventures in Hi-Fi, in 2021.
The Blu-ray disc includes the album in Hi-Res and 5.1 Surround Sound, as well as performance footage, the original EPK and HD-restored music videos. Housed in a 32-page hardcover book, the deluxe set includes new liner notes from journalist Josh Modell and interviews with the band.
