Psycroptic

The Inherited Repression

BY Denise FalzonPublished Feb 7, 2012

With their latest release, The Inherited Repression, Tasmanian tech-death metallers Psycroptic have bridged the gap between unorthodox technicality and straightforward, catchy hooks. The Inherited Repression, the band's fifth album, is dynamic, with unique song structures and fast, technical guitar work blending with slow grooves and melodic parts. From the groove-heavy "Carriers of the Plague" to the mind-melting "From Scribe to Ashes" and classic tech-death number "The Sleeper Has Awoken," Psycroptic offer a well-balanced variety of rhythms and tones. The Inherited Repression is unpredictable and attention holding throughout, with excellent production quality showcasing Dave Haley's superb drumming, as well as Jason Peppiatt's vicious vocals. With their most cohesive record to date, Psycroptic have set a high standard and unleashed one of the best tech-death albums of the year.
