PJ Harvey

"The Wheel" (video)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Feb 1, 2016

PJ Harvey has been slowly unveiling the details of her upcoming LP The Hope Six Demolition Project and in the lead-up to its release, she's shared a new video for "The Wheel."

We previously heard a snippet of the song in an album trailer, but now the full track has arrived along with visuals from Harvey's frequent collaborator Seamus Murphy. The creative pair recently collaborated on a photography book titled The Hollow of the Hand, which documented their travels to Kosovo, Afghanistan and Washington, DC.

The new clip draws inspiration specifically from what they saw on their trips to Kosovo. Murphy told Noisey that the fairground wheel at Fushe Kosove/Kosovo Polje directly influenced the song's title, but questions that it was the sole inspiration behind the song's meaning: "Without being told the stories of people who had suffered during the war, without visiting villages abandoned through ethnic cleansing and cycles of vengeance, without experiencing the different perceptions of people with shared histories, could the song have been written?"

The Hope Six Demolition Project is due out on April 15 through Island Records. Watch the video for "The Wheel" below.
