At this point, there's no arguing that Piero Piccioni released some truly great records in his time, and reminding us of this will be a new vinyl presentation of his beloved — though extremely hard to find — Il Dio Sotto La Pelle.
Sonor Music Editions has teamed up with the newly launched imprint Musica Per Immagini to bring Piccioni's Il Dio Sotto La Pelle back to the realms of vinyl, with the 2LP reissue set to arrive on February 3.
Piccioni's soundtrack was originally recorded for the 1974 documentary directed by Folco Quilici and Carlo Alberto Pinelli, and at this point, the OST only ever arrived back in the year 2000, when the influential Easy Tempo label unearthed the score.
Now Sonor and Musica Per Immagini will be dusting off the long out-of-print soundtrack for a new double vinyl reissue that's been remastered from the first-generation master tapes.
Among the included tracks are 12 newly restored cuts, as well as some stellar new graphics and typography work from Luca Barcellona. Marco Ferretti also contributed new liner notes for the release, which also comes as a gatefold sleeve.
The labels explain: "A renewed, deluxe edition of this very essential OST by the cult maestro where jazz, soul, exotica, lounge music and psychedelia are mixed in an admirable way, introduced by the dreamy voice of Catherine Howe and at times accompanied by Edda Dell'Orso's sweet vocalism, with Piero Piccioni's dazzling Hammond organ."
