Long-running Toronto outfit Picastro previously gave us a taste of their album You, and now they've shared the entire thing ahead of its March 11 release on Static Clang.
The album was recorded by Jeff McMurrich (Constantines, Fucked Up, the Luyas) and mixed/produced by Nick Storring and Sandro Perri. It features guest appearances from Tony Dekker (Great Lake Swimmers), Alex Lukashevsky (Deep Dark United) and others.
Opening cut "Mountain Relief" begins the album with dark folk orchestrations and stormy drones, and this sets the tone for a 10-song collection that mixes soft beauty with harsh textures and sinister experimentation. Notably, "Vampires" harkens back to the abrasiveness of early Velvet Underground, and "Baron in the Trees" is seven and a half minutes of quirky plinks and plunks and detuned tension.
Soak in all of You below.
