Pianos Become the Teeth

What a beautiful surprise this debut EP is. The six members of Pianos Become The Teeth increase the ferocity of the scream/talk style characterized by mewithoutYou. At times, Kyle Durfey's voice fights to find its way to the front of mix, but it blends so well with the band's ebb and flow between aggressive moments and melodic standstills that it just works. "Houses We Die In" builds to a stunning crescendo of squealing guitars, with Durfey's scream overtop the Explosions In The Sky-esque eruption. And then on "All Children Make Mistakes," the band drop everything but their instruments, crafting an introspective melody filled with sweeping pianos and quiet cymbals. The album has six tracks but clocks in just shy of half-an-hour. They pack as much as they can into each song, displaying unique beauty amidst the aggression.
