In addition to their work in the space-aged rap-rock group N.E.R.D, Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo also make world-renowned hits as the Neptunes. Since the early 2000s, the duo have basked in mass appeal with money-making radio bangers for everyone from Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z to Madonna and Britney Spears. In 2003, they released their debut album as a production team, titled Clones. Now, Williams says we can expect a new Neptunes album in 2011.

Speaking with the Herald Sun [via 2dopeboyz], Williams confirmed that a new Neptunes album is coming together. "This new Neptunes record we're working on right now is vicious. It's definitely harder – it totally demands sweat," he said.

When asked about the difference between the Neptunes and N.E.R.D, Williams explained that it's really a matter of personality, saying, "Music is music. But with N.E.R.D we put more of our personality into it, that's just us being us, and with Neptunes we produce for a lot of people so we allow space for their personalities, for them to be themselves and our music sort of commandeers the direction a bit."

The upcoming Neptunes project does not have a title or release date just yet. As previously reported, N.E.R.D will be getting the Best Of treatment with a new compilation on January 11.
