There's just under a month to go before New York pop duo Phantogram make their return with Three. To keep us sated until then, they've unveiled yet another synth-speckled stream, this time for album track "Cruel World." Things aren't all bad, right?
The new single was premiered today (August 17) via Zane Lowe's Beats 1 program, and begins with a piano-twinkling passage that finds vocalist Sarah Barthel ready to put an outright drag of a partner out of their misery ("I'm taking you out, it's a cruel world"). From there, the songs heads into a thudding arrangement of boom-bap beatwork and distorted tones, with Barthel going on to "say goodbye to [her] good side."
You'll find the track streaming below, while Phantogram's Three has been pushed to an October 7 release date through Republic. The band will support the collection with a North American tour that hits Canada.
