Peter Katz Announces Live CD/DVD, Books Cross-Canada Tour

BY Alex HudsonPublished Sep 2, 2011

Peter Katz is one of Canada's most dedicated, hard-touring troubadours, so it's only fitting that the folk-pop songwriter should get his own live album. On September 20, he will release Peter Katz and Friends LIVE at the Music Gallery on CD and DVD. Once the disc is out he will -- surprise, surprise -- go on another Canadian tour.

The live album includes a slew of guests contributing backup vocals, piano, strings and horns. According to a press release, "Katz takes you into his personal songwriting life while his voice and acoustic guitar remain the focal point throughout."

There are 19 tracks in total, but it's worth noting that many of these are spoken interludes between songs. The DVD version also comes with bonus video tutorials that explain how to play each song.

A few days after the live album comes out, Katz will launch his latest cross-Canada tour, fittingly enough at the Music Gallery in Toronto. The 16-date outing will take him throughout Ontario and across Western Canada. Scroll past the tracklist for the schedule.

In other Katz-related news, he just launched a Perk Campaign (a website similar to Kickstarter) to help fund the recording of his new LP. Depending on how much you donate, you could win prizes like an autographed copy of the album, access to his backstage rider, a personal guitar lesson, a private house concert, a personalized song, or the opportunity to have Katz produce your music. Check out the campaign here and watch a video explaining the project at the bottom of this page.
