Pearl Jam, Tupac, Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode Among 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Oct 18, 2016

It's that time of year again. The annual list of nominees up for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has been announced.

In the running for this year's top honours are Bad Brains, the Cars, Chaka Khan, Chic, Depeche Mode, Electric Light Orchestra, J. Geils Band, Jane's Addiction, Janet Jackson, Joan Baez, Joe Tex, Journey, Kraftwerk, MC5, Pearl Jam, Steppenwolf, Tupac Shakur, Yes and the Zombies.

Pearl Jam and Tupac both appear on the list in their first years of eligibility, marking 25 years since their first recordings were released in 1991. Depeche Mode, Bad Brains, Jane's Addiction, Electric Light Orchestra and Joan Baez also appear on the list for the first time. However, Yes, Kraftwerk, Janet Jackson, Chaka Khan, MC5, the Cars and Chic are each making repeat appearance on the list of nominees — Chic for an impressive (or infuriating) 11th time.

The 2017 inductees will be announced in December, with a ceremony to follow in April. The event will be aired on HBO.

Last year, Cheap Trick, Chicago, Deep Purple, Steve Miller and N.W.A. claimed spots in the Hall of Fame.
