In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, Pearl Jam made the decision to postpone their North American tour back on Monday (March 9). Now, they've opened up about the factors that influenced the decision in a FAQ on their website.
Explaining why they decided to postpone, the band offered the following statement:
We have been through a lot as a band over the past 30 years and we did not make this decision lightly. Our team worked tirelessly to see if we could keep the tour going. It became clear by Monday afternoon that we would not be able to — in good conscience — head out on the road. Even though our gear was already en route and our crew was on the ground for rehearsals, we made the difficult decision to postpone. We wanted you all to know as soon as we knew so you could make your own plans.
Despite Pearl Jam's North American leg's postponement, so far, their global Gigaton listening parties scheduled for March 25 remain uncancelled. The fate of these individual events, which are to be held in various movie theatres, are in the hands of the hosting venues, Pearl Jam explained.
The band's European June and July tour dates remain scheduled as planned — or at least so far. They've also announced that they will honour tickets from any and all postponed events.
No new dates for the North American tour have been scheduled as of yet.

Gigaton's release date will not be affected, and the album will still arrive on March 27 via Monkeywrench/Republic.
