The Pains of Being Pure at Heart Release Debut, Tour North America

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Jan 5, 2009

With Crystal Stilts and Vivian Girls keeping indie pop alive and well last year, the Pains of Being Pure at Heart are set to do the same in 2009.

Scratching that itch for catchier-than-thou, lo-fi jangle, the New York four-piece are due to release their self-titled debut full-length February 3 via Slumberland. It's very fitting label representation for the Pains, considering their screeching noise pop nostalgia takes cues from former Slumberland stars Black Tambourine, as well as the Field Mice, JAMC and Lazy-era My Bloody Valentine. But nostalgia trip or not, the Pains make that old guitar racket sound just as personal and playful in 2009 as it did back in 1989.

If you're in doubt, just check out the tracks currently streaming on the Pains' MySpace page or their new video for album track "Everything with You" (see below). Or better yet, you could also hit up one of their upcoming shows, which find the Pains playing Toronto on February 12 and Montreal the following day.

Here's a list of all the pop gems contained on the Pains of Being Pure at Heart's Slumberland full-length, as well as the band's upcoming tour stops:
