A couple of years back, Load Records had a streak of releases by bands determined to dissolve the concept of melody and metre in a lime pit — Fat Worm of Error, I'm looking at you. Ovo, the transplanted Italian duo of Bruno Dorella and Stefania Pendretti, managed to pierce that brown shroud with a feral blend of gothic, pre-industrial age garage rock. Crocevia, if anything, takes a geological step backwards, turning out tracks that trilobites might groove to if they had electricity. At best, their bursts of guitar, violin, drums and guttural exclamations are Id-propelled rushes of adrenaline. At worst it's what you'd expect from a closet full of Ritalin deprived eight-year olds given Lightning Bolt's gear for an afternoon.
