Old Wounds is a great moniker for a young band (all members are under 21) playing metallic hardcore, a genre that reared its ugly head during their youth, or even before. The genre certainly was, and still is, a wound, with the crushing collision between metal and hardcore proving more vital than either independently. On From Where We Came Is Where We'll Rest, Old Wounds' two vocalists provide a bit of a disjointed identity. However, when matched with the appropriate parts — the screeched high vocals with the fast parts and the gruff growls with the slow and low — they create frenetic tantrums or devastating dirges. Genre innovators and obvious influences such as Deadguy, Indecision, Turmoil and Disembodied may have perfected this style, but Old Wounds and peers like Foundation are reviving it. And they may even end up breathing new life into it.
