When Okkervil River announced last week that they had a new twelve-inch on the way, we weren't sure if it was a stand-alone single or if it was in relation to an upcoming full-length release. Now we've received our answer. Yesterday (January 10), the band appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and revealed that they will release the new LP I Am Very Far on May 10.
Fallon dropped this nugget information while introducing the band, who played a countrified waltz called "Wake and Be Fine." The performance featured backing from Fallon house band the Roots, as well as harmonies sung by New Pornographers main man Carl Newman. Perhaps Newman was returning the favour for when Okkervil River singer Will Sheff appeared on the New Pornographers' most recent album, Together.
I Am Very Far will be Okkervil River's sixth LP. Like the previous albums, it will come out via Jagjaguwar. See the cover art above.
If you can't wait until May to hear new material from the band, the single "Mermaid" will be out on February 8. Click on the embedded video below to see the Fallon performance.
