After months of speculation, courting and a Funny or Die sketch, unsigned California rap collective Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All have laid out their label plans: they will partner with Sony's RED Distribution to launch their own imprint, Odd Future Records.
In theory, this means the group will continue to have the freedom of an independent label but with the backing major. Among RED's other label clients are FADER, Fat Wreck, ATO and Fat Possum.
In statement to Rap Radar, the group's manager had this to say about the deal:
They will have 100 percent creative control of all aspects of their music, art, and release schedule with no third party participation in outside business... RED and Sony know that it's in everyone's best interest to maintain the group's authenticity and control. They built it, they deserve it. There's no cheesy hooks or fluorescent liquor product placements in the works... It's about to be fun... and different...
As previously reported, Odd Future are heading out on a North American tour, which includes a Toronto stop on May 15. They have also now added a European trek to the tour. You can see all the dates below.
