Nutrients Announce New Album 'Different Bridges,' Share Dreamy Single

Hear new single "Nauseous" now

Toronto-based indie pop group and Exclaim! Class of 2020 grads Nutrients have released a new single ahead of their forthcoming new album, Different Bridges.

Influenced by '90s dance pop and '80s Japanese city pop, "Nauseous" is the latest single to be lifted off of the upcoming album, which is slated for an August 5 release via Earth Libraries. It follows previously released track "Window Seat," which arrived last month.

Spending the pandemic searching for new sounds with fresh eyes from new member and multi-instrumentalist Ben Fukuzawa, the track is described as an exaggeration of the band's elastic guitar lines and smouldering vocal melodies.

Sonically, "Nauseous" proved complex for primary songwriter Taylor Teeple. "The vocals are a blend of [mine] and Iulia's [Ciobanu, singer] falsettos," he said in a release. "For the singing during the main sax riff, we had an inter-band challenge of who could write the best melodic addition, and Iulia ended up winning with her low-key but dramatic 'ooh-oohs.'"

Teeple added: "[It's] definitely one of our most technically demanding songs in order to play it as tight as it sounds on the album."
