For the past couple of years, CBC Radio 3's Searchlight project has sought out and given credit to the cream of the Canadian music industry crop based on the votes of the listening public. In 2008, they gave the Best Independent Record Store in Canada prize to Prince George, BC's Meow Records and in 2009 the Best Live Venue in Canada honours went to Windsor, ON's Phog Lounge.
This year, after having compiled another juicy shortlist, Searchlight has crowned a winner of the Best Music Festival in Canada: Antigonish, NS's Evolve Festival.
According to the competition website, CBC Radio 3 will broadcast live from the winning festival, so you can hear Evolve without having to travel out to the East coast. Evolve will also receive a Best Music Festival in Canada plaque to commemorate the win, as well as some serious bragging rights.
The Evolve Festival will be held this summer from July 23 to 25. A line-up has yet to be revealed, but you can find all other info about the event at the official website here.
Xavier Rudd at last year's festival, which is obviously a "come rain or sunshine" kind of deal:
