From Tuscon, AZ, but now based out of Oakland, CA, Nobunny is a Ramones obsessive (possibly named Justin Champlin) who guards his identity by wearing a rabbit mask. He wears it on the Ramones-inspired cover of his album, Love Visions, which dropped late last year (via 1-2-3-4 Records) and hasn't left my playlist since. I just plain forgot to feature him before but since this is my second to last edition of Click Hear, well, I just couldn't resist the urge to squeeze him in.
A major player in the growing breed of lo-fi garage currently climbing up the ranks of what's cool, this half man, half bunny is as much on the bubblegum tip as garage. I can certainly hear traces of those Ramones, some Thin Lizzy and definitely some similarities to Jay Reatard but man, I know Nobunny is a fan of lost power pop obscurities Milk N' Cookies, whose sugary-sweet hooks ring throughout his cheap and dirty fuzzballs.
"Motorhead with Me!" is lifted from the B-side of the "Give it to Me" seven-inch that came out on Hozac Records not too long ago. Check the sweet handclap rhythm, the crisp fuzz chugging and the amiable lyrics, which would make Apples in Stereo choke on their Hubba Bubba in disgust.
