Toronto-born Schitt's Creek actor and musician Noah Reid is headed to the Great White Way, where he'll make his debut as Mr. Peel — the role previously played by Armie Hammer — in Tracy Letts' The Minutes [via Deadline].

The Steppenwolf Theatre Company production of the comedy was in previews last February prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Its shutdown coincided with the allegations made against Hammer, who was accused of rape and physical assault by a former partner in March 2020.

Hammer withdrew from The Minutes in April amid the scandal, saying: "I have loved every single second of working on The Minutes with the family I made from Steppenwolf. But right now I need to focus on myself and my health for the sake of my family. Consequently, I will not be returning to Broadway with the production."

This past June, the Call Me By Your Name/Sorry to Bother You actor made good on his promise and reportedly checked into a rehabilitation facility for "drugs, alcohol and sex issues."

Meanwhile, Reid — beloved for his portrayal of Patrick Brewer on the critically acclaimed Canadian comedy series — turned his big TV moment into a buzzing music career, releasing his sophomore folk-rock album Gemini in May of last year. While this will be his Broadway debut, he's not a stranger to theatre; his Toronto stage credits include Hamlet (Terragon Theatre), alongside The Aliens and Creditors (Coal Mine Theatre).

In The Minutes, Reid will return to a familiar small-town setting: he'll trade Schitt's Creek for Big Cherry in the comedic exposé of the inner-workings of a city council meeting that explodes into revelations of greed, hypocrisy and ambition when a newcomer starts asking all the wrong questions.

Reid joins the rest of the production's original cast prior to the pandemic shutdown: Letts, Ian Barford, Blair Brown, Cliff Chamberlain, K. Todd Freeman, Danny McCarthy, Jessie Mueller, Sally Murphy, Austin Pendleton and Jeff Still.

The Minutes is set to resume performances at Studio 54 on March 19, 2022, ahead of its official opening curtain on April 7.

Reid was recently nominated for English Songwriter of the Year by the Canadian Folk Music Awards.
