Out of nowhere, sonic experimentalist Nils Frahm has dropped a new EP on us. Titled Encores 1, the surprise release is out now, and you can stream it for yourself below.
The mini-release follows Frahm's most recent album All Melody, which arrived earlier this year. Apparently, Frahm had a lot of unused material from his All Melody sessions — some of which is now being shown off with Encores 1.
In a statement, Frahm explained, "The idea behind Encores is one we had from before All Melody; to do three releases each with their own distinct musical style and theme, perhaps even as a triple album. But All Melody became larger than itself and took over any initial concepts."
He added, "I think the idea of Encores is like musical islands that compliment All Melody."
You can hear how that plays out for yourself below.
Encores 1 is also available on 12-inch vinyl, and you can pick it up over here.
