Back in January of last year, we got word that a new supergroup was forming between indie rock vets Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub), Mike Belitsky (the Sadies) and Joe Pernice (Pernice Brothers). Known as the New Mendicants, the pop trio would go on a tear in 2013, touring through Australia, releasing an EP and even a pair of Christmas singles all before year's end. Well, the band are now finally ready to unveil their debut LP, Into the Lime. You can stream the album in full ahead of its January 28 release through Ashmont Records/XPT Records.
Described in a press release as featuring "nuggets of effervescent Hollies-style guitar pop laced with Simon and Garfunkel-esque vocal interplay," Into the Lime happens to be so much more, evoking the best parts of early '90s Britpop (album opener "Sarasota"), chugging college rock ("Shouting Match") and Morrissey-worthy acoustic ballads (Sandy Denny cover "By the Time It Gets Dark").
