New Fries Sign to One Big Silence for Expanded Reissue of 'Fresh Face Forward'

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Mar 10, 2016

While a lucky few managed to nab copies of Toronto no wave crew New Fries' Fresh Face Forward cassette when it dropped back in 2014, the band's distortion-fried release has been given new life for the rest of us. A tweaked-up and expanded version of the release is now available digitally and on vinyl through a new partnership with One Big Silence/Dine Alone.

New Fries' six-song collection has been beefed up to now include an additional track called "Hurricane Be." The packaging is also a bit different this time around, with artist Laurie Kang having prepped new cover art for the release. While a repress of Fresh Face Forward could arguably have felt a bit stale, the band state that switching up the visuals and the audio format puts a new spin on the songs.

"We didn't know we wanted those songs on vinyl," singer/guitarist Anni Spadafora said in a statement. "When Mike from One Big Silence approached us about reissuing the tape on a new format we were at first hesitant to recycle old material but quickly realized it was an opportunity to hear the songs differently, visualize them differently with the support of Laurie Kang and press an old song — one of the first songs we ever recorded as a band, to keep it dirty."

Below, you'll find a video combining Fresh Face Forward tracks "Plexiglass" and "Water & Water."
