Toronto experimental crew New Fries have announced plans for a brand new record. Titled Is the Idea of Us, the album arrives August 7 via Telephone Explosion.

Following the exodus of band's synth player, Ryan Carley, New Fries switched up their roles, trading instruments and starting fresh with beginners' mindset. Their newfound configuration resulted in an album "anxious in its repetitions and unsure of genre."

Today, the band have shared a new single and Amy Lockheart-animated music video from the effort titled "Ploce," which reflects their categorical transition.

Here's what they had to say about their new project:

Is the Idea of Us is the situation of musicians/non-musicians making music together perhaps completely illegible in the music on this record and to the random listener who doesn't know our story in South Bend, Indiana (how did you find us?!) But with this title we name this absurd gesture, through our changing relationship to making music both as a unit and as individuals. There are enough bands out there; we insist on do it differently.

The album was recorded by Carl Didur, formerly of U.S. Girls, in Toronto.

New Fries last released a record in 2016.
