Yet another archival Neil Young album is on the way. In addition to unearthing the long-lost Homegrown, the exploratory folk-rock great is planning to release a collection of unreleased '80s recordings titled Road of Plenty. It's due out in 2021.
The title track "Road of Plenty" kicked around throughout the '80s, eventually turning into "Eldorado" on 1989's Freedom. The take that appears here comes from a 1986 live performance from Young's band Crazy Horse, recorded in Minneapolis.
Road of Plenty also contains a 17-minute studio jam with Young's band the Bluenotes ("Sixty to Zero"), and a few studio tracks with the group he assembled for an SNL appearance in 1989 ("Fuckin' Up" and more).
In an announcement about Road of Plenty, Young also shared an encouraging message for fans, seemingly alluding to coronavirus lockdowns: "Hang in there folks, we will get through this all together if we are meant to. Life will never be the same and that's not all bad. Look at what we will have… Love one another and be true to our beautiful EARTH. The future is ours to save."
