British songwriter Neal Halstead has gone through a lot of changes. In his time, hes transformed shoegazers Slowdive into dusty pop/country outfit Mojave 3. Hes ventured out on his own to play his hand as a solo artist. And hes recently left a childless existence to welcome twins into the world. But of all these changes, perhaps his latest label shift comes as the most surprising. In August, Halstead will leave the comforts of his ultra-cool UK home, 4AD, to release a new solo album via Brushfire Records, the imprint run by Top 40, sandal-totting soft rocker Jack Johnson.
No exact title, tracklisting or release date have been confirmed for the upcoming Halstead record, which will his first solo jaunt since 2002s Sleeping on Roads, but we can only hope all hints of Johnson sing-alongs, lullabies and Curious George stay out of the recording.
In the lead-up to the album, Halstead will also be joining Johnson and Brushfire label-mates Rogue Wave on the road, with two Canadian dates included (Oro, ON on August 3 and Montreal on August 4). And while the prices for the shows range from $35 to $49.50, children under two or "babes in arms require no tickets. Now, isnt that sweet.
