Nardwuar the Human Serviette is undeniably likeable. So it comes as no surprise that he was able to convince a bunch of rock stars to record covers of semi-obscure Vancouver punk bands for his latest compilation, Busy Doing Nothing. What started as a split seven-inch between his band, the Evaporators, and Franz Ferdinand covering the Pointed Sticks, quickly grew; Nardwuar wanted to include a new edition of his punk rock calendar featuring Bev Davies' photographs. But, he says, a single costs almost as much to make as an LP and the LP "would make more room to shove the calendar inside."
As well as throwing on some Evaporators tracks, including a collaboration with old friend Andrew WK, he convinced the Cribs and Kate Nash to take a stab at tracks by the Dishrags and cub respectively. "They actually took my suggestions," he enthuses. "Somebody actually listened to me!"
