Expressions

Culled from a series of twelve-inch records released over the last two years, Los Angeles disco-ists Music Go Music's debut LP will undoubtedly draw comparisons to '70s post-AM radio stalwarts like ABBA, Electric Light Orchestra and the Carpenters. As some of the Italians Do It Better roster have recently flirted with midi string sections, romantic overtures and brooding female vocals, Expressions curtly removes the "influenced by" spin and bravely pursues the blueprint. Singles "Reach Out" and "Warm in the Shadows" shoot straight over the top as vocalist Gala Bell Fosbury Flops her faux-leather pacing over purposely clichéd soldier-march drums and soaring guitar solos. The rest of the album holds up just as well ― Expressions is devoid of a clunker ― filled with interesting twists and faultless songwriting. Hardly groundbreaking and ardently self-aware, Expressions achieves everything Music Go Music want to display to the listener.
