Moore Brothers

The Humans Will Take Care

BY Sara MontgomeryPublished Apr 1, 2001

I have always wondered what the Beatles would have sounded like without George Martin and his French horn fixation. It might have been somewhere in Moore Brothers country. They don't seem to have any problem fleshing out their jazz-tinged pop with a simple bass/drum/guitar line-up punctuated by tasteful harmonies. The four beautiful songs showcased on this disc speak for themselves as unadorned gems in a beat oriented synthetic wasteland. From the Cardinal-esque "Baby Doll" to the late '60s groove of "Fascination," the Moore Brothers managed to reference both Richard Davies and the Kinks' Ray Davies without sounding derivative. The full-length release, Colossal Small, promises to be a powerful and evocative release.
