MOONRIIVR — a new project from the Wooden Sky vocalist Gavin Gardiner and Dwayne Gretzky guitarist "Champagne" James Robertson — have just released their first single "Blonde Hair Now."
The project began in 2020, during the early days of the pandemic, when both artists found themselves similarly unmoored. The two later recruited Ben Whitely, bassist for the Weather Station, and percussionist Lyle Molzan (Kathleen Edwards, Corb Lund) for their recording sessions.
"Blonde Hair Now" is the first single released from their recording session at the Robertson family farm, north of Toronto, where they had to record in the garage with the door open due to the July heat, allowing for the natural ambient sound of their rural environment to seep into the background of their recordings.
Gardiner describes "Blonde Hair Now" as "a celebration of the small moments in our days that make up our lives, a beautiful homage to the gravity of the simple everyday decisions that shape our world."
While we wait to hear more from the newly formed outfit, check out the music video for "Blonde Hair Now" below.
