Halifax's Monomyth are counting down the days before their psych-pop-styled debut LP Saturnalia Regalia! officially arrives in stores via Mint Records. Lucky for you, though, the band are orbiting the song cycle online ahead of the July 22 street date, meaning you can sample the whole set now on Exclaim.ca.
As previously reported, the album is described as "janglophile pop with a smirking sense of humour, stadium-sized hooks, and starry-eyed harmonies from the barbershop of broken dreams." What does that mean, exactly? Well, in the case of preciously previewed track "Patsy," the band flirt with a super-skewed and bendy approach to '50s sock hop ballads, while "Theme from Monomyth" mixes a Byrds-ish guitar sparkle with the gentler side of '80s post-punk.
In addition to other previously previewed numbers like "Something Else" and "Candleholder," the stream below also gives up goodies like the percussive, age of aquarius-approved "Pac Ambition" and the nocturnal entwining of six-string sparkle and distant piano plunks of epic closer "The Big Reveal."
If you're a fan of anything from Chad VanGaalen and Murderecords indie pop, to a blend of warped guitar shoegaze and trippy, SF Sorrow-period Pretty Things, give the album a spin down below. Please note that the stream is only available in Canada.
Monomyth will celebrate the album's release with a pair of hometown shows on July 25. You can get all the details here.
