Eat Your Young

BY Sam SutherlandPublished Feb 14, 2007

There’s some serious Blake Swarzenbach (Jawbreaker) worship happening on this five-song EP, from the "Chemistry” mimicking power of opener "Information” to the "Boxcar” bounce of "Two Stories.” This appropriately lo-fi-sounding recording brings out the grit in the band’s sound, which, along with the gruff-sounding vocals of Ryan Seagrist, keeps their catchy-as-hell songs from falling too heavily into pure pop territory. At the same time, the instantly memorable melodies of songs like "Holiday” prove that, at its core, Eat Your Young is simply a really great collection of pop songs played with a sense of vitality while cloaked in the grime of punk rock.
