Grammy winner Monica Brown is back with a slew of bangers and staple R&B tracks on her new album Code Red. Backed by the industry's best, Code Red features Timbaland, Missy Elliot, Lil Wayne and Akon. But fans will be happy to that it's Monica's soulful crooning over anecdotal lyrics that really make the record.
Lead single "Code Red," aggressively introduces the album and features Missy Elliot's powerhouse flow and Brown's daughter Laiyah. The Polow Da Don produced track "Just Right for me," featuring Lil Wayne, is aimed at becoming a radio-friendly smash. "Hustler's Ambition" features Akon and tells the tale of distanced love, over Latin-inspired instrumentals and a soft singing Monica. Timbaland's iconic production shines through in "Love Just Ain't Enough," where Monica delivers sentiments listeners can easily relate to about love. The '90s-oriented "Suga," is fun but too relies too much on easy flowing lyrics.
Code Red is a well packaged collection of songs, but falls short on containing anything on the same calibre of Monica's iconic hit "The Boy Is Mine."
