It's been over a quarter of a century since disgraced pop act Milli Vanilli were at the centre of a massive scandal because Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus weren't actually singing any of their own songs. In fact, John Davis was one of the real people singing their music. Unfortunately, he's now passed away.

Davis died on Monday (May 24) at the age of 66 following a battle with COVID-19. The news was revealed by his daughter Jasmin.

"My dad passed away this evening through the coronavirus," she wrote in a Facebook post. "He made a lot of people happy with his laughter and smile, his happy spirit, love and especially through his music. He gave so much to the world! Please give him the last round of applause. We will miss him dearly."

Davis was one of several singers who sang on the group's hit 1989 album Girl You Know It's True — originally released as 1988's All or Nothing. He was born in South Carolina and moved to Germany where he eventually linked up with Milli Vanilli mastermind, producer Frank Farian.

Alongside other session singers, Davis helped provide the vocals that who go on to make Girl You Know It's True a hit, but he was only listed as a backing singer, with Morvan and Pilatus falsely given credit instead.

Milli Vanilli's Pilatus passed away in 1998. In 2015, the band's Morvan teamed up with Davis to collaborate on an album called Face Meets Voice: A True Milli Vanilli Experience. The album has not yet emerged.
