Mike Kinsella Details Owen Covers Album 'Other People's Songs'

BY Josiah HughesPublished Oct 1, 2014

As promised, Chicago multi-instrumentalist Mike Kinsella has brought back his Owen pseudonym for a new collection of covers.

Called Other People's Songs, the release sees him taking on, well, other people's songs. Here, Owen performs material originally written by Lungfish, Blake Babies, Mojave 3, the Promise Ring, Depeche Mode, All, Against Me! and Smoking Popes.

Speaking with Exclaim! earlier this year, Kinsella said that he loved the idea of working with other people's source material. "I hemmed and hawed about it and once I sat and figured out eight or nine songs that I really liked, that I'd like to figure out a way to do, I got excited about it," he said. "I wanted to do in a different way and make them my own."

Polyvinyl will issue Other People's Songs on December 2. In the meantime, you can stream Owen's take on the Smoking Popes' "Under the Blanket" below.

Other People's Songs:

1. Descender (Lungfish)
2. Girl in a Box (Blake Babies)

4. Forget Me (The Promise Ring)
5. Judas (Depeche Mode)
6. Just Like Them (ALL)
