If they ever lose their Canadian passports, Michael Bublé and Nickelback's Chad Kroeger can just show border security the hockey rinks in their respective basements — it'd probably be more effective than a birth certificate.
Bublé outed both himself and Kroeger as major puck heads in an interview with KFC Radio this week, talking about the clashing cultures in his household between his overtly Canadian identity and his wife's Argentinian background.
"I'll show you something crazy, I'll show you how Canadian I am. It's a humble brag, probably," he said. "I didn't want to be a singer. That's the truth. Of course I did, but, really, I wanted to get drafted and play for the Vancouver Canucks. I was the shittiest skater who ever lived and so it didn't happen. Let me just show you this."
He proceeded to take out his phone and show the hosts a video of, presumably, his children skating and playing hockey on an ice rink.
"You know what's crazy too? I know another guy, a friend of mine who has an ice rink too, and it's Chad Kroeger of Nickelback," he revealed, before going on to detail the lore behind his own rink. "It's not that big of a house either, but that was the first thing I built. It literally was a Zamboni first, and then the rest came in."
Unfortunately for Bublé, the rink's construction didn't quite have the effect he intended.
"I was like 'oh my god, my kids are gonna be able to be hockey players,'" he recalled. "And then I fell in love with this Argentinian woman, and we had kids, they're like 'meh, hockey.' Dude, all they give a shit about is soccer."
