Men I Trust are back with another plush, propulsive groove — "Ring of Past" is the Montreal band's first new track of 2023 following previously shared one-off singles "Hard to Let Go," "Billie Toppy" (which made our best songs of 2022 list) and "Girl."
This new one is a starlit jam that rides a keening keyboard pattern and a bouncy, tightly coiled bassline. Emmanuelle Proulx sings in her familiar ghostly coo, professing that "I'll always love you / Forever with you / Reliving youth through / You."
It's a bit more in line with the sighing lounge pop on 2021's Untourable Album than with the lean post-punk of "Billie Toppy" or the trembling baroque folk of "Girl." Untourable Album was Men I Trust's last full-length.
