Mathias Kaden

Studio 10

BY Taïca ReplanskyPublished Oct 25, 2009

Two years in the making, Studio 10 marks German DJ and producer Mathias Kaden's first full-length effort. Rich with collaborations, live instruments and vocals, this album is definitely a change in direction from Kaden's previous minimal tribal singles on the Vakant imprint. Each one of the 12 tracks on this album offers something unique. From flugelhorn and violin to Fender Rhodes, not to mention the several different vocalists weaving diverse messages into the music, Kaden is definitely exploring his talents as an instrumentalist, rather than as a dance floor DJ, here. This isn't to say that the album doesn't groove. Kaden's signature 808 sound is still there, tying everything together with smooth, catchy beats that echo most closely the mood of Chicago house.
