Mas Aya — the prolific Toronto-based producer/percussionist and collaborator to U.S. Girls, Sandro Perri and Sook-Yin Lee — has announced plans for a new album called Máscaras (the Spanish word for "masks"). The new effort, which features contributions by Lido Pimienta, will arrive on September 24 via Telephone Explosion, marking his debut with the label.
Today, the artist born Brandon Valdivia shares the record's lead track, the percussion and flute-focused "Momento Presente," which comes with its own Gustavo Cerquera Benjumea-created visualizer.
Speaking about the track, Valdivia explained:
During the breakdown, we hear a sample of an unnamed Nicaraguan Sandinista Guerilla from the Liberation Theologist, Poet-Priest Ernesto Cardenal's "Misa Campesino" (Peasant's Mass, 1979) where the Guerilla is reflecting on when is the right time to create a revolution against the tyranny. He decides that time is the present moment (moment presented).
