Mark Kozelek Announces New Sun Kil Moon LP, Premieres "God Bless Ohio"

Mark Kozelek's extended catalogue is a daunting beast as it is, but the curmudgeonly folksmith shows no signs of slowing down. He's now announced another release from his Sun Kil Moon project, a double CD titled Common As Light and Love Are Red Valleys of Blood.

News of this latest Sun Kil Moon full-length arrived through Kozelek himself, who confirmed that the collection will see release February 28 through his own Caldo Verde Records. While Sun Kil Moon issued a collaborative LP with Justin Broadrick's Jesu this year, Common As Light and Love Are Red Valleys of Blood marks the proper follow-up to last year's Universal Themes.

The full details on the album have yet to be revealed, but Kozelek is currently teasing the upcoming collection with a stream of its "God Bless Ohio." A fairly funky, finger-picked piece, it has Kozelek musing on his home state's nursing homes and dilapidated barns, as well as the Velveeta cheese his mom picked up on grocery days, being chased through cornfields by police and the spot where they filmed The Shawshank Redemption. You can hear the song over here.

Kozelek most recently released a collection of David Bowie, Modest Mouse and 10cc songs as Mark Kozelek Sings Favorites. You'll find Exclaim!'s review over here.
