Mark Kozelek Sings David Bowie with Mike Patton on Forthcoming Covers LP

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Feb 2, 2016

In addition to his prolific songbook of originals, Mark Kozelek has covered countless artists over the years. His next solo release will be a full-on covers set paying tribute to David Bowie, Modest Mouse, Bob Seger and more. Titled Mark Kozelek Sings Favorites, it arrives May 27 through his Caldo Verde Records.

Described in a statement as featuring "a few of his favorite songs, plus favorites of friends and loved ones," Kozelek's covers set features a mix of pop songs, Christmas carols, and movie music.

Throughout, he approaches material by Bob Seger, David Bowie, Modest Mouse, 10CC, Waylon Jennings and more. He's also recorded versions of Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer's Breakfast at Tiffany's ballad "Moon River" and The Wizard of Oz's "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."

The collection was teased on the Sun Kil Moon homepage, which is currently streaming Kozelek's take on David Bowie's Young Americans number "Win." It's added that Mike Patton (Faith No More, Nevermen) is singing backup. You can hear it over here.

Low's Mimi Parker is also featured on Mark Kozelek Sings Favorites, but it's as yet unclear where.

A list of tracks from the collection can be found down below.

Last month, Kozelek issued the Jesu/Sun Kil Moon collaboration with Jesu's Justin Broadrick.
