Marie Davidson has returned with a new band and new full-length record. With Marie Davidson & L'Œil Nu, the Montreal artist will release Renegade Breakdown on September 25 through Bonsound/Ninja Tune.
Forming the trio with Davidson are husband and Essaie Pas bandmate Pierre Guerineau, as well as Asaël R. Robitaille. With Renegade Breakdown, the three longtime collaborators are said to have created a pop record that builds on core tenets of Davidson's sound to create "something that strikes out towards a broader audience."
Drawing from electro, rock and jazz, Davidson said of the record, "We wanted to make songs, like the music we've been enjoying altogether for more than a decade."
The album's title track arrives today alongside a lyric video that you can find below. The album's title and its artwork, seen above, reference the career and life experiences that Davidson had examined on 2018's Working Class Woman.
Working Class Woman was short listed for the 2019 Polaris Music Prize. Exclaim! named the LP one of the 50 Best Canadian Albums of the 2010s, while also naming single "Work It" one of the 50 Best Canadian Songs of the 2010s.
