Dettmann

Marcel Dettmann (resident DJ at Berghain and occupier of the top spot in the world of badass techno DJs) released his first full-length album, Dettmann, on Berlin's stellar underground imprint, Ostgut Ton. Known the world over for his sparse, trance-inducing techno grooves, Dettmann provides us with an intimate glimpse into his world, one in which pounding techno rhythms collide with shimmering industrial reverberations to create a sound that's truly Berlin. Dettmann isn't an album suited for headphone listening ― each track is an expertly designed techno groove best showcased by skilled DJs who allow the flow to continue for maximum effect. By no means is Dettmann a pigeonholed techno album; its crossover appeal will likely find Dettmann's tunes on play lists of DJs across the electronic music spectrum. Standout tracks like "Drawing" and "Screen" paint a clear picture of peak party hours at Berghain, while "Viscous" is reminiscent of those late night illegal warehouse parties of the past.
