Malevolent Creation

Invidious Dominion

BY Denise FalzonPublished Sep 7, 2010

After 23 years and countless member changes, Florida-based extreme metal stalwarts Malevolent Creation are back with their 11th studio album, and while it's not their best work ever, Invidious Dominion is still one hell of a powerful release. As death metal veterans, to say the least, Malevolent Creation have unleashed the fury of their signature old school brutality with Invidious Dominion. The album begins with a creepy 30-second intro that flows into unrelentingly vicious opening track "Unite Hate." Midway through the album is highlight "Target Rich Environment," which features blazing fast, precise guitar work by Phil Fasciana and Gio Geraca. However, while attempting to recreate the aura of their 1991 debut, The Ten Commandments, by bringing back the scary-looking demon on the cover, Invidious Dominion falls a bit short. Anyone just getting into Malevolent Creation should opt for the band's earlier releases before picking this one up.
