Major Lazer have had their share of enormous, larger-than-life hits, and each have come with brash, colourful videos. That's why their latest video is somewhat of a departure.
"Soul Bang," from the collective's Apocalypse Soon EP, is one of their most poppy tracks to date, pairing a laid-back, reggae groove with a sing-along melody. It eventually builds up to a twerk-inducing climax, but it still doesn't come near to the brain-busting explosions of their past work.
Similarly, the video for "Soul Bang" is relatively subdued. In place of the titular cartoon character Major Lazer and his hijinks, the black-and-white clip offers slow-motion footage of the group onstage. That said, thousands of screaming fans, rump-shaking back-up dancers and plenty of other visual treats keep things interesting.
