Mae’s new collection of b-sides is set to Balkanise the entire music community. A large sect will emerge wondering, "Who are Mae?” These people will also wonder why the band is releasing a b-sides compilation. Another group will pop up who actually know Mae and who will also wonder why the band is releasing a b-sides compilation. And then there will be those who know who Mae is and have accepted the b-sides collection but will begin wondering anew, "Who are Mae?,” after listening to the b-sides collection. And there’s nowhere to look for answers because Mae don’t even know who Mae are. Their press release says much about "evolution,” but their songs say much more: here’s a band struggling to find a voice. Their singer seems to have decided on Ben Gibbard, but the rest of the band’s not too sure. So we wait for the next LP…
