Machinedrum Announces DJ Rashad Tribute Album 'Movin' Forward'

BY Josiah HughesPublished Apr 21, 2015

Last year, the world lost a truly unique artist when footwork producer DJ Rashad died of a drug overdose at 34. His legacy lives on, however, and electronic producer Machinedrum (a.k.a. Travis Stewart) is the next artist paying respects with a new compilation.

The release is called Movin' Forward, and compiles a collection of collaborations between Machinedrum and Rashad. It also includes two new Machinedrum compositions that were inspired by Rashad.

"Over the past few years I've been lucky enough to collaborate with Rashad and even be remixed by him," Stewart said in a statement. "The tracks were never completely finished and seemed impossible to finish after he passed. Eventually I mustered up enough courage to open the sessions and finish them. It is what Rashad would have wanted me to do.

"I called it Movin' Forward because I know Rashad wants everyone he touched to keep pushing themselves and follow in his footsteps on the path he had been creating all these years. I'm proud to have known him, shared the stage with him and to have collaborated with him."

Movin' Forward will arrive on April 24. All proceeds from the release will be donated to DJ Rashad's estate.

Before it arrives in full, listen to the Machinedrum, DJ Rashad and Nick Hook collaboration "Understand" below.
