Winnipeg hip-hop crew the Lytics earned our attention with their self-titled debut back in 2009, which we praised for offering "something for everyone." Soon, the group will follow it up with their sophomore album, They Told Me, which is due out October 16.
For this release, the Lytics -- who are made up of three brothers and a cousin, plus a friend -- honed their technical skills and expanded their hip-hop palette to become more of a "musical chameleon." Their sound now features "everything from funk-rock, to Afrobeat to '60s R&B."
You can get a taste of the act's far-reaching sound by checking out the track "Stay Calm," a swirling song that blends pop-friendly R&B with rap and a militaristic marching beat. You can stream it below or download it for free right here. If you feel like donating any money for the track, you can do so over at Bandcamp.
The album cover, which is guaranteed to make you crave Triple Rockets, is above.
