Gas Sculptures

The ever-prolific Lunar Lemur presents us with Gas Sculptures, his second full release this year alone. The "sculptures" in this collection aren't exactly made of gas, obviously, but of electronic sound; each piece is fresh and original (there's no hint of repetition) with wonderfully unfamiliar sounds and textures.

The first track is an illustrative example. "Alpha Particle Emission" opens with a sweep of ambience, highlighted by a pretty flute-like synth. But then things get a little weird with some backward-tape before the whole gets blown up into a dramatic beat. You'll get swept from one mood to another, with the smooth transitions easing the way.

The landscapes you pass are sometimes spooky, such as the mysterious "Suggestive Geometry," and some even have an industrial edge ("Atomic Marketing"). It can be eerie, but never menacing. The dreams we share here with Lunar Lemur may be strange indeed, but there are no nightmares.
